One of my favorite parts about slow travel is that

One of my favorite parts about slow travel is that it opens up more space to stop along the way and happen upon places that feel like pure magic. We were headed pack to Porto from Peneda-Gerês National Park and needed to make a pit stop to feed Theodore. What was supposed to be a quick in and out operation turning into us scooting into a parking spot in a tiny town square that materialized out of thin air around a curve in a windy mountain road, enjoying a cappuccino at a cafe while watching a group of regulars enjoy a (rather heated) game of chess while they smoked, grabbing some apples from the elderly lady running a fruit stand on the corner, and stumbling into a church courtyard-turned-orchard.
